Set against the backdrop of a family from Vancouver, Canada, exploring Quebec City for the first time, the story follows a young child grappling with the difficult loss of their baby sister, Clemence. Through unexpected encounters and tender moments as a family, the older sibling learns to navigate the complex landscape of grief.
This storybook not only validates the emotions of children but also serves as a poignant reminder to other children and adults of their crucial role in providing support and understanding during times of grief. Clemence is a must-read for anyone who has experienced the profound ache of loss. Through its thoughtful narrative and evocative illustrations, it offers reassurance that it’s okay to feel sadness, shed tears, and cherish the memories of those we hold dear
Embark on a heartfelt journey of grief and healing with Clemence, a touching children’s picture book that navigates the rollercoaster of emotions following the loss of a loved one.
"A purple mitten, a stuffed toy, a song, a healing journey to Québec City . . . Through such simple, poignant details the story gradually emerges of a child’s tragic loss, and of a stricken but caring family who together absorb the crushing weight of grief. Beautifully understated, authentic and poetic, the story of Clemence reflects the twin realities of love and death, which when wisely embraced can leave the heart of a family, though still broken, somehow whole."
